Lesson Plans for Digital Natives

"The only thing my people cannot do in response to the meanings and practices that claim us is remain neutral."

-Donna J. Haraway, Modest Witness@Second Millenium. FemaleMan Meets OncoMouse, pg. 51

On this wiki, you will find a couple lesson plans for students to explore their indentities and embodiment.

Feel free to add any other lessons you'd like to share that tap into the interest and skills of the digital natives sitting in our classrooms.  Also, if you use any of these lessons, posting some good models would be helpful as well.

*** I had plans for one more lesson involving students creating avatars from scratch, writing a story from that character's perspective, and then adding speaking from the story to the avatar, but time slipped away and I had to stick with the two lessons I started.  Hopefully, I'll be able to put up a third lesson soon. ***

Note: All of the above lessons use http://www.voki.com to create avatars.  Students will need accounts with voki in order to edit an avatar past the first time it is open.  If students are unable to obtain accounts due to lack of email, parental control, etc., it is possible to have students use the teacher's account.  I created gmail accounts for each of my class periods and then created voki accounts using those gmail accounts.  Also, note that in order to save an avatar in voki, it must have some sort of speech entered.
